The Smart Moves:

Pilates and Fitness

What We Do

Bottomline? We teach the Smart Moves!

The main focus of the studio is classical, or authentic, Pilates, in the lineage of Romana Kryzanowska. Using the full array of apparatus, we teach clients to understand and work from their "Powerhouse," or in other words, their core. The Pilates method is accessible for ALL people and ALL bodies. It strengthens your body, and it hones your mind. Whether you have a specific goal, or just want to feel better, the Pilates method will help you attain your goal. Now that's a Smart Move!

If Pilates isn't your jam, the studio also offers personal training. We have served clients ranging from youth athletes to elders, people with disabilities, and many in between. Our knowledge and experience ensures that you aren't doing mindless reps. Instead we stay focused on your goals and abilities, so that you're only doing the smartest moves for your body.

Our History

In 2013, we moved from New York city to raise our new family. As word spread, the studio's roster grew, and in 2015 it made sense to offer a more individualized and private experience to the clients. Like so many other businesses before, the garage provided the space we needed to take the next step. We renovated the garage and invested in equipment. After navigating our way through the pandemic, it was once again time to evolve, and in the spring of 2024, we moved into our first commercial space. It is an intimate space that offers a calming and quiet atmosphere for clients to focus on their individual needs. We look forward to welcoming you in soon!

About Seth

Seth's experience with movement and coordination really began when he started riding horses at the age of six. Little did he know that foundation would lead him on a circuitous path to dance. Somehow, his early studies of mathematics and voice gave way to a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He moved to New York city to dance professionally, and he met his future wife. With her encouragement, Seth entered the comprehensive certification program at Power Pilates, under the direction of Howard Sichel, Susan Moran, and Bob Liekens.

Through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Seth also achieved a Personal Trainer certification, a Corrective Exercise Specialist, certification, and multiple sub-specialty certificates.

Currently, Seth is expanding his Pilates teaching skills and depth of knowledge even more through a program with Inelia Garcia.

About Katie

Katie Aggen is originally from Camarillo, CA.  She grew up playing on the beach and swinging from trees.  As an active child, she studied gymnastics, ballet, jazz and tap.  She also enjoyed playing soccer and surfing.  In college she got more serious about dance and started to explore contemporary/modern dance.  After graduating with College Honors, a BA in Community Studies, and a minor in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz, Phi Kappa, Katie relocated to SF where she had a brief career working as a billing administrator for Microsoft.  Being that she had a hard time sitting still, Katie decided to focus her energies on dance and Pilates. In 2004, she received her Pilates Certification in San Francisco under the direction of Carol Appel—an intense program that required 650 hours of training. Katie went on to train and dance professionally in San Francisco and New York City.  For many years, she taught both private and group classes in San Francisco and New York at a range of spaces from upscale boutique studios to the Dance Department at Rutgers University. Katie is returning to the Pilates Studio after a 12-year hiatus raising her two boys and one fur-baby. She is looking forward to this next chapter of life—furthering the dream she and her husband, Seth, have of creating a space for wellness within their community.

As an instructor, Katie pulls from her dance, yoga and Romana-based Pilates training to create a well-rounded, challenging and enjoyable session.  She continually encourages her clients to grow in their Pilates practice, all the while tracking their improvements in posture, balance and strength.
